Milestones in our development
The IGES Institute as it is known today was founded in 1980 as the “IGES Institut für Gesundheits- und Sozialforschung” by staff working at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). Base-line questions at the time focused on the infrastructural and economic prerequisites that needed to be fulfilled in order to construct new hospitals. In doing so, our work was increasingly influenced by the question of how the health system itself actually functions. Comprehensive analyses on themes like these are what make the IGES Institute what it is today. They have also constituted the basis from which we have been able to successfully transfer our approaches onto other fields in the public sector.
The following chronicles the most important developments which have shaped the IGES Institute from conception into what it is today.
